Challenge
In December 2020, the post-Brexit Agriculture Bill was going through Parliament. If this policy did not raise environmental standards and help UK farmers to balance food production with nature-friendly farming, future food security and the agriculture industry would be at risk.
Solution
Demonstrate the business case for nature-friendly farming through new research, farm analysis and case studies, to drive legislation and the policy agenda. Greenhouse developed a strategic PR campaign and report launch, which highlighted the consumer, farmer and NGO support for effective nature-friendly policy change.
Result
Report was shared with politicians and key stakeholders as evidence in the run up to the debate in the House of Commons. Secured national and local media coverage across the UK including BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio Wales, ITV Yorkshire, Yorkshire Post, BusinessGreen, Farmers Weekly, reaching 21.8 million.
Impact
The report armed the NFFN with the materials they needed to lobby key political stakeholders for changes to policy. As a result of the campaign, the NFFN gained 84 new farmer members and obtained further funding.
